Starr Seed Healing Project
Named after T Starr, our beloved community member who lost his life to gun violence in 2020, the Starr Seed Healing Project creates spaces for youth to access one-on-one counseling and coaching, process grief and trauma, and cultivate collective care, joy, and power.
Therapeutic Support
The Starr Seed Healing Project connects young people with non-institutional, community-based professionals for trauma-informed, healing-centered, and culturally-relevant therapeutic support. Counselors will collaborate with teens to identify and work towards the goals, transformation, and healing they seek. The Starr Seed Healing project is grounded in self-love, in recognition that healing is a birthright and already present within us, and in the belief that we are all already whole. The Starr Seed Healing Project serves all teens in our programs, prioritizing youth of color, LGBTQ+ youth, low-income youth, youth activists, and young people directly impacted by the child welfare system and court system.
Healing in Community
In employing teens and supporting youth leaders, we intentionally work to disrupt patterns of toxicity and burnout within community activism and work. Our Soul & Soil program is a weekly youth healing circle—a safe and loving space for youth to engage in the transformative work of self-discovery, identity development, and community care. Youth develop the skills to support the mental health of themselves and their loved ones, connect with the healing traditions of their own communities and lineages, and explore the intersections of collective healing, wellness, and justice. Soul & Soil is an accompaniment to our youth leadership and employment programs, and serves teens employed in our programs.
