Fall 2026 afterschool PROGRAMS
Fall Schedule (9 weeks) : September 22 - November 18, 2026
See program descriptions below for more info. You are welcome to apply for one or both afterschool programs. Please apply by September 4 to ensure your child’s enrollment.
Location: Kite’s Nest, 58 North Front Street, Hudson, NY 12534, with additional field trips.
Transportation: Bus available from the Hudson City School District to Kite’s Nest. Rides home available after the program, upon request in the application.
Snacks and dinner are provided.
Enrollment and cost: These programs are FREE. Donations are always welcome from families who can pay and can be made here. Given the limited size of our current program offerings, priority for these after-school programs will be given to students currently enrolled in the Hudson City School District, and residents of Bliss Towers, Schuyler Court, Hudson Terraces, and Providence Hall. ROOTS & REBELS GARDEN CLUB
Connect with nature, learn about gardening, and explore the environment around us!

Join us every Wednesday for the Roots + Rebels Garden club! While our River City Garden alongside the river is closed during construction, we’ll focus our efforts across the street on the eastern parcel on gardens around our building. We’ll be working alongside and learning from the ReGen Teens, who’ve been stewarding the land they named the ReGen City of Life. Through direct mentorship youth will learn about seed germination, pollinators, science, ecology, and more!
This program is FREE. If you would like to make a donation to support the program, we suggest $150-$400 per semester.

Let's get into our artist energy as we make things inspired by the world around us!
With Amanda M. Boyd + KN Youth Program Assistants with Guest Artist Educators.
Join us every Tuesday for art-making after school! This season we’ll invite and spend time with a series of special guest artist educators to make and create creature-inspired sculptures and other exciting art-based projects. We'll process end-of-day energy by making things with our hands and play games to get inspired by the world around us! Come get creative and express yourself!

sOCIAL JUSTICE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

Rooted & Routed: Practice Makes Power!
With Claire Cousin & Enrique Rivera
Building from our summer season’s theme, “Rooted & Routed”, we’re moving from learning about the history and power of youth activism to putting those lessons into practice. This season is grounded in the belief that performance and collective creation are tools for liberation, leadership, and community power. We'll explore how storytelling, campaign building, and advocacy are shaped and strengthened by youth organizing.
Participants will engage in artistic and collaborative processes that build critical consciousness, historical awareness, and organizing skills as a way of exploring political concepts through ACTION. We’ll learn the basics of collecting and sharing community stories, find ways to preserve those stories through local archives, and work together to build an advocacy campaign around an issue that matters to us.
Throughout the program, youth are positioned not only as learners, but as culture keepers, historians, artists, and emerging leaders. We’ll end the season with a free local event where young people can educate their community and showcase what they’ve created. We got ROOTED in movement history. Now we’re ROUTING the path forward by turning what we’ve learned into action, stories, and youth power.
*Previous participation in the SJLA program is recommended, but not required.
