NOTEBOOK & COOKIES
After school writing and cooking club: writing, baking and snack-making. Just try not to get chocolate on your favorite story.

In this after-school creative writing workshop, we engaged with the mediums of WORDS and SNACKS. Each week we wrote together and cooked together, making real the metaphoric connections between a cook’s and a writer’s different tools (words, details, dialogue, punctuation, paragraphs, poetry and prose), and a cook’s ingredients (flour, salt, sugar, butter, vinegar, citrus), and we practiced the processes of making (a little bit of this, a little bit of that, a pinch, a taste, a test). We started each week by writing from an Open Writing Prompt and then shared, workshopped, revised and expanded some of our work for The Notebook and Cookies Zine. We cooked pancakes and then wrote our recipes for a perfect day. We cooked a feast and all started a story with, “We all sat down at the table…”
